Six products to have you looking fresh for Mother’s Day without getting comments about “too much makeup“ from mom.

Foundation: Three Flawless Fluid Foundation

Price: B1,950
The natural look is all about getting a fresh, flawless face without a caked-on feel. So, after applying your daily moisturizers, choose a liquid foundation that’s light like a day cream but still provides medium coverage. We recommend Three Flawless Fluid Foundation. Like most Three products, it’s light but does wonders as it’s enriched with organic oils that protect your skin during the day. Oh, and the natural look doesn’t have to be 100% matte—this foundation also illuminates your skin, giving you a refreshing glow.

Matte Eyes: Urban Decay Basics Palette

Price: approximately B810
Use the same method as if you’re going for the smokey-eye look. We chose the Urban Decay Basics Palette as it gives quite a clear color and also lasts all day. Pick one shade above your skin color as the base (either Walk of Shame or Naked 2), then apply the Faint shade to the outer edge of your eyelid to create depth and the Venus shade to the inner corner of your eyes, then blend.
Order online at: www.facebook.com/eazyorder

Powder: Three Diaphanous Loose Powder

Price: B1,750
You might need some concealer to correct red spots or dark circles under your eyes, but instead of adding another product to the process, just use the same foundation as above and apply spot by spot. Your foundation and powder don’t have to be from the same brand, but it is the safe way to go. We chose loose powder instead of pressed powder as even though we went with liquid foundation and cream blusher, neither of our selected products leave you with an oily finish. You only really need the powder to give yourself the perfect finish. Opt for pressed powder if you still need a bit more coverage, though.

Light Lash: Maybelline Volum’ Express Magnum Mascara

Price: B349
Using a liner brush, apply the Crave shade from the Urban Decay Basics Palette close to your lash-line to shape your eyeline (not a thick line like you might do for other looks). Then, we chose Maybelline Volum’ Express Magnum Mascara to finish the eyes, as the product gives an outstanding black color, adds natural-looking length to your lashes, is easy to apply and lasts all day.

Nude Lips: MAC Lipstick Lustre-Freckletone

Price: B850
MAC nude lipstick products give a very beautiful, natural color if matched to your skin tone. Apply this nude color and finish the look with clear gloss for a slight glow.

Cream Blush: Illamasqua Cream Blusher

Price: B1,150
Instead of using powder right after applying foundation, we say go for a cream blusher from Illamasqua to apply beforehand for more natural results. The product comes with eight different shades; pick the warm, candy-like Promise or warm and peachy Rude, depending on your skin color, then apply it around your cheek bone (just as you would normally apply powder blush).

There’s more to this city than Victorian tearooms. This Mother’s Day (Aug 12), take your mom to one of these places for a sweet treat.

Let Them Eat Cake

This café has had a buzz about it for a little while now, so could make for an exciting Mother’s Day stop-off.  Run by the same people as W by Wanlamun, a Chiang Mai dessert eatery, Let Them Eat Cake serves up homemade pastries and sweets that wouldn’t be too out of place in a French patisserie. Spoil your mom with top of the line treats like the St. Honore Rose-Framboise (B175) and dôme au chocolat (B145). The first venue has outdoor seating or you can drop by another branch at Siam Center after a spot of shopping.
G/F, Mille-Malle, Sukhumvit Soi 20, Bangkok, 02-663-4667. Open daily Sun-Thu 10am-11pm; Fri-Sat 10am-midnight

Café Cha

With its old town location, sophisticated design courtesy of architect Bill Bensley and antique collection belonging to one of the owners, Krissada Sukosol Clapp, your mom is sure to love Café Cha and its charming vibe. Drop by the newly opened café and try its afternoon tea sets (2-6pm, B750 per person or B1,350 for two) which involves liberal servings of scones, brioche rolls and spinach-parmesan quiche. And why not make mom extra happy by plying her with 2010 Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage Brut (B1,450 per person/B2,650 for two). Free shuttle boat from Taksin Pier (see website for schedule).
The Siam, 3/2 Khao Rd., 02-206-6999. www.thesiamhotel.com. Open daily 8am-6pm

Café de Norasingha

If your mom is still into Khun Chai soap operas, surprise her with a trip to this café. Located in the Phyathai Palace, this colonial-style venue is said to be an homage to the very first Thai café dating back to the reign of Rama VI. The grand atmosphere is sure to be something she brings up in chitchat with her friends later. Coffee here starts at B40 and snacks include the old-school moo kem prik khing (bread served with pork and deep-fried catfish with chili, B130)—perfect if your mom is not much of a cake person.
Phyathai Palace, 315 Ratchawithi Rd., 02-354-8376. Open Mon-Fri 8:30am-7pm; Sat-Sun 10:30am-7pm

Patisserie Mori Osaka

Patisserie Mori Osaka serves authentic Japanese sweets drawing on the chef’s many years of dessert-making experience in Osaka. Along with the cute origami-inspired decorations, it’s a great place to have a one-on-one talk with your mom while tasting the sweet delights like strawberry shortcake (B110), green tea mousse (B90) and gateau chocolate (B100) with a pot of Gryphon tea (B120).
RCA, Block C, Rama 9 Rd., 02-641-5770. Open daily 9am-9pm

Vieng Joom On

This famous café from Chiang Mai settled in Bangkok a year ago, featuring the same Moroccan style as its Northern sister. Trust us, the mood and tone cannot get more girly than this. Here, they serve up different mixes of teas from around the world. Try the signature, Vieng Joom On Tea, a wonderfully fragrant mix of black tea, rose petals, white tea, clover, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper and plum (B150/pot; B390 with scones, B650 as a high tea set) or Madam Butterfly (green tea, sunflowers and peach, B150/pot).
93/332, The Emporio Place, Sukhumvit Soi 24, 02-160-4342. www.vjoteahouse.com. Open daily 11am-8pm

TWG

The shiny décor here is perfect for moms of the khun-ying variety but, really, TWG is only really worth a visit for its tea. (Perfect if mom’s on a diet.) Bordered by monogrammed glass, TWG’s trademark look of European elegance is completed by a dark marble floor, wood paneling trimmed with gold and shelves lined with their signature yellow tins. With a dizzying selection of over 450 types of tea, you might want to ask staff for a recommendation. Served by the pot (B250 for most), signature varieties include the delicately floral white earl grey (B470) and the 1837 black tea (B250).
M/F, Siam Paragon, Rama 1 Rd., 02-610-9527. Open daily 10am-10pm

Indulge in quintessential summer tipple on any budget with this guide to our favorite rosé.

UNDER $30

Syrah Rose Belgrange

From the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France, this direct, easy drinking vino tastes of blackcurrant and cherry, and is medium crisp. It’s a gorgeous deep garnet color (showcasing lots of fruit extraction) too.
$23 from Le Benaton @ Grandstand

UNDER $50

Estampa Estate Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah Rose 2010

Manfred Tan, managing director of Phoenix Wines says, “We like the red berry, cherry and white peach aromas of this wine. There’s also a natural freshness: The fruitiness is balanced with a touch of mint. It’s great for Singapore’s tropical climate.”
$36 from Phoenix Wines

UNDER $60

Mitolo Jester Rose

Full and bright, this unique wine has an almost tomato-like nose with bracing acidity.
$50 from Wines Online

UNDER $80

Ochoa Rosado de Lagrima

This Spanish roseboasts a pretty light cherry color and has a full red berry aroma. Restaurant Manager at Platters, Tan Kok Hong, recommends pairing it with dishes such as Asia’s Ultimate Star Burgers (from $32)—a duo of spicy beef rendang and chicken satay sliders—available as part of their guest chef edition five menu (with chef Karl Dobler and Eugenia Ong) available through October 31.
$75 from Platters Bistro and Wine Bar

Rose de Haut Bailly

Made from 100% cabernet sauvignon, this bottle is exceptionally smooth but is also concentrated enough to even stand up to a good steak.
$70 from Caveau Wines & Bar

UNDER $100

Chateau d'Esclans Garrus Rose

“This individualistic rose is powerful, with complex layers of flavor including red currant and cranberry. There’s also some minerality with a hint of wet earth, which I think represents the terroir of Provence, France well,” says Gerald Lu, head sommelier at Praelum.
$80 from Praelum Wine Bistro

Don’t you know? Thursday ladies’ nights are the new Wednesdays. Celebrate one of the most underrated days of the week with these sweet deals.

The Vintage Room

The Vintage Room is one of our favorites around Duxton, thanks to its cute but not prissy vibe. Think cushy sofas, fuzzy rugs, vintage bric-a-brac, dainty French bites and girly-girl drinks list. As if all that wasn’t enough, they also make free Bellinis for ladies on Thursday nights, which makes it all the more difficult to resist popping by after work to hang out. (What? Us clichéd?)

Pangaea

If you’re often stuck at work and keep missing regular happy hours, Pangaea's weekly late night hip hop and trap party should make your trudge home a little lighter. From midnight, ladies get as many signature Pangini cocktails as they want for an hour. Although men have to pay $30 (the only cover charge in this list), they get in on the fun, too, with all-you-can-drink housepours and beers for the same duration.

Kyō

Newcomer Kyō’s really coming into its own with its slick parties and great guest DJs. But they’ve not too cool for a ladies’ night, apparently, and a pretty formulaic one at that: Complimentary vodka cranberry? Check. Hip hop and R&B soundtrack? Check. Though it’s not exactly cutting edge, it’s still one of the best ladies’ nights in town, because the crowd sure knows how to have fun. Come early for their fantastic Japanese bar bites.

Idle

If bumping and grinding to trashy club remixes is not your thing, Idle’s ladies’ night is a pretty good alternative. In-the-know DJs like Kentaro Taniguchi from the Mugic crew and the laidback guys from Kilowatt Soundsystem make this more a music scene get-together than an exploitative scheme to get girls maximally wasted. For free flow drinks, they’ve stuck to the traditional lychee martini. Oh well—we can’t have it all. Yet.

83

Slightly wacky Club Street watering hole 83 has a 1-for-1 on selected cocktails ($15) on Wednesday nights, and their Absolut Mandarin-spiked "Vitamin C" cocktails are $30 for four. We hear they even have mocktails ($10) for those who can't hold their alcohol but don't want to feel too left out.
