Thonglor’s
Soul Food Mahanakorn, home to creative spins on traditional street food favorites, turns 10, and they are celebrating the milestone this Thursday,
Oct 29, with a full list of friends in tow.
The brainchild of former food writer-slash-chef Jarrett Wrisley and wife Candice Lin, Soul Food has been a favorite of locals and tourists (when we had them) over the kind of tumultuous past decade, keeping everyone happy with izakaya-meets-honky tonk dishes, weekly specials focusing on local ingredients, a laid-back vibe, and a signature cocktail list brimming with creativity. In today’s restaurant scene, 10 years is a lifetime, but Soul Food still gets mad love because they keep it exciting with genuine food and lots of events that keep you on your toes, from Taiwanese food takeovers to Northern and Southern Thai nights led by the likes of food author
Austin Bush.
The evening’s festivities will see chefs and friends of the restaurant like
David Thompson, Duangporn “Bo” Songvisava and Dylan Jones from
Bo.lan, Chalee Kader of
100 Mahaseth and
Holy Moly, Tim Butler of
Eat Me, and Prin Polsuk from
Samrub for Thai serving up special bar snacks and bites that can be paired with craft beers from Beervana (B200), a fun list of cocktails (B250), and wines courtesy of Wine Garage (B250).
Bar snacks start at B200 each, but you can also go for the dishes that have stood the test time, like their addictive deep fried banana blossom fritters (B275), tangy eggplant salad (B220), or sweet and sticky tamarind pork ribs (B280). Tunes will be courtesy of Maft Sai, the owner of
Zudrangma Records and member of the
Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band.
