In anticipation of the annual and somewhat controversial Worlds 50 Best Restaurant awards at the end of this month, the results for numbers 50 to 120 have been announced.

If you're having difficulty adding up those numbers, bear in mind the title of "World's 50 Best" is misleading. Typically, the list contains 100 restaurants but—just to add to the confusion—this year they’ve extended it to 120 in celebration of the 120th anniversary of main sponsors, San Pellegrino.

After chef Garima Arora was awarded Asia's Best Female Chef 2019, this year's list sees her restaurant Gaa (Top Tables no. 2) make the cut for the first time at no. 95. Meanwhile, post-David Thompson era Nahm (Top Tables no. 12, now headed by chef Pim Techamuanvivit), has dropped drastically from no. 49 (2018) to no. 69.

After Top Tables no. 1 Sühring landed no. 54 in last year's World's 50 Best (and no. 4 in regional offshoot Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018), we’re interested to see whether the German duo make it into the top 50 this time around. Meanwhile, 50 Best mainstay Gaggan (Top Tables no. 3) has been climbing the ranks from no. 23 (2016), to no. 7 (2017), to no. 5 (2018)—let’s see if the trend continues for 2019.

The top 50 will be revealed at the awards ceremony on Jun 25 at Marina Bay Sands Singapore.
