In the mood for arguably the best paella in town? This place serves up eight different varieties, including seafood paella (B1,200 for 2, B2,300 for 4) which is huge and satisfying, even though it doesn’t come in a pan and lacks the crispy rice at the bottom. If you’re not into paella, the flavorful black creamy rice with monkfish cheek (B460) is also a must-try. Plus, the wine here is competitively priced (starting B165/glass), making it easy to nurse a fine red while admiring the rustic decor and digging into some good food.

Operated by Martin Blunos, the former Iron Chef UK star with a Michelin-studded background, you can expect simple comfort food made with extraordinary produce and playful preparation here. We love the juicy braised pork belly (B500 or B650 with Strongbow cider) drenched in apple juice with pork skin fritter and spiced chickpeas, or have a little more fun by ordering the Peking duck pizza (B570) smeared with oyster sauce. A live DJ hits the decks every Wed-Sun from 7 pm onwards, which keeps the environment from becoming excessively quiet and lonely-feeling.

While most French restaurants focus creating glamorous Paris vibes, this bistro gives you the essence of the airy outskirts of Provence with its wooden decor and shady trees around the house. Not only the vibe is fresh and clean, but the dishes also shine with healthy ingredients you can eat without regretting it later—the chef opts for olive oil instead of usual French staples of butter and cream in most recipes, meat and seafood are brought in fresh and the restaurant uses organic vegetables and herbs.

You’ll find plenty of French foreigners hanging out here, which lends to the venue’s authentic bistro credentials—in fact, it gets so crowded we recommend you to book beforehand. The menu is influenced by classic Gallic cuisine, but is peppered with creative twists and delivers bigger portions than you would expect. Try the pot of plump mussels served with perfectly cooked french fries and flavorful mariniere cream sauce. Marcel also boasts a highly skilled barman, so don’t forget to order a cocktail, our favorite is the spiced rum-based Baudelaire, to knock back while waiting for your grub.

After having a huge success with Cocotte and Pesca, this eye-catching pizzeria with a mid-century decor serves Italian comfort food cooked by Chef Samuele Alvisi like the Mangia Fuoco pizza with burrata cheese, nduja pork spread and ventricina sausage spiced beautifully with chili and garlic. Pair the pizza with a glass of Prosecco Cuvee Stella Pillars from the restaurant’s large wine list, or tuck into its tea time set (a tower of sweets pastries and teas) for something a little lighter.

This Mediterranean bistro is the sibling venue of the preeminently-packed Cocotte, run by Italian chef Marco Pacetta, who highlights Spanish-style plates inside an open kitchen accompanied by an on-site seafood market and tanks of crawling live lobsters. Not only do they dish out paella (B1,390 feeds two, and you can add a full lobster for an extra B1,890), but you can order mussels “Pesca Style” (B690) or a massive grilled surf and turf platter (B2,690, for two) freshly seared on the outdoor grill—to that end, the restaurant has a very respectable range of premium meats to choose from. Plus, you can pick up cold cuts, cheese and bottles from wine room, similar to Cocotte.

The rebirth of what many believe to be “Bangkok’s first true Italian restaurant” is as classic and laid back as you want it to be. To that end, the menu is full of the oldies you’ve come to know and love, as well as a new range of dishes like New Zealand mussels with the homemade pesto. It’s not only the savory Italian classics that make this place worth visiting—desserts like the tiramisu are enough to convince even non-dessert fans to snag repeat spoonfuls.
