Abandon your New Year's resolution with some delicious pasta at these 10 restaurants
We know pasta can be healthy, but is that what you really want?
With its phonebook-thick menu and chalkboards scrawled with notes on viniculture, aging processes and pairing tips, this rusticated wine bistro is as much about getting educated as it is about getting sozzled. Alongside wine from organic, biodynamic and sustainable producers are cold cuts and tasty Mediterranean dishes. Try the homemade beetroot ravioli (B380) served with parmesan cheese and pine nuts, or the spaghetti clams (B390) with garlic chili, white wine, pepper and parsley. All the pastas go well with their selection of wine (from B250/glass), which covers sparkling, red, white, rose and what’s called “orange wine” (white wine made using the same method as red wine).

Amid brushed concrete walls and bright hanging lamps, pull up a seat at Al Dente’s open kitchen counter for a front-row view of chefs churning out fresh pasta. We recommend the Bottagara (fresh pasta featuring garlic chili, parsley, rock lobster, dried gray mullet and pesto, B390), the Bigoli Al Ragu’ D’anitra (braised duck meat ragout, B350), and the pumpkin gnocchi with lobster bisque, sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese (B330). Salads are also on offer (from B250) alongside dishes like tuna tartare (B350), crab cakes (B550) and sweets like the classic tiramisu (B250).

Step inside this Parisian-style bistro with warm lighting, cozy seating nooks, and quirky displays of shoemaking equipment (cordonnier means "cobbler") to enjoy a near-perfect evening setting. Classic brasserie dishes showcase the best of French flavors like the beef bourguignon (B520), which does justice to its hefty, fork-apart chunks of meat with velvety gravy and fluffy croutons. For pasta, try the mushroom linguine with porcini, garlic, olive oil and truffle butter (B300), or the linguine with clams, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and white wine (B350).

Styled like a deli and a restaurant but more evocative of a fine-dining hotspot, this upscale eatery offers Italian classics made with fresh and, sometimes, homemade ingredients. The friendly and well-versed staff will tell all you need to know, from rotating daily specials to what region of Italy the dishes come from. The results are both delicious and beautifully plated, like black truffle carbonara angel hair with rosemary and crispy Italian sausage (B690), and the fresh seabass carpaccio (B590) with sea asparagus, capers and oregano. To drink, the cellar comes equipped with some of the finest Super Tuscans around.

Tastefully twee in eye-popping aquamarine, Thonglor’s La Dotta looks like a '50s Italian diner as seen through the eyes of Wes Anderson. The uncompromising dedication to authenticity is writ large in dishes like a pasta carbonara (B360), which is creamy (without cream) and punctuated by the salty tang of Pecorino Romano. Even better is the daily-made pasta that you can order for take-away to make at home, or find in dishes like the tagliatelle Bolognese (B590) with 24-hour-cooked wagyu beef shoulder and ribbons of pasta that are silky and smooth but firm to the bite.

From the same folks behind legendary Bangkok eatery Lenzi Tuscan Kitchen. Visit Nonna Nella on a weeknight to find a familiar scene of office workers, families and party people guzzling wine and chowing down on pizza and pasta surrounded by decorative wine barrels, inspirational quotes and graffiti murals. Highlights include the tagliatelle al cinghiale (B520) which hits all the right notes with its rich, meaty wild boar ragu sauce and al dente ribbons of perfection, and the silky spaghettoni salsiccia (B440) with pork sausages made using fresh produce from Lenzi’s farm in Tuscany.

Themed to resemble a Tuscan villa complete with a gigantic fireplace, wood-beamed ceiling and large frescos of patrician families, the long-standing Sheraton Grande's flagship restaurant offers Italian dishes made using imported produce. Our favorites include the homemade tortelli carbonara (B610), milk-fed veal tortelli and ricotta truffle cream (B610), and the homemade tagliatelle (B590) with lamb ragout, sweet pea, fossa pecorino cheese and mint. For dessert, try the tiramisu (B290) served with espresso-dipped ladyfingers, mascarpone mousse and amaretto ice cream.

This downright comforting trattoria looks straight out of an Italian food movie. More important than the convivial setting and eager-to-please service, the pizza pulled from a wood-fired red brick oven never disappoints: a crust that's wonderfully crisp yet pillowy, moist but burnt in all the right places; the zing of a good tomato base; bountiful toppings. Pasta is also as good, with our favorites like the exceptional bolognese ragu (B290), and ravioli all’ossobucco (B590) ravioli filled with stewed beef shank.
