The SG50-themed anthology is probably the year's most anticipated film

We haven't been this excited about a local movie since Ken Kwek's Unlucky Plaza late last year. Fully funded by the Singapore Film Commission, 7 Letters, aka "the SG50 film", is a collaboration film between seven writers-directors, ranging from mainstream maverick Jack Neo to artier folks like Boo Junfeng, Kelvin Tong, K. Rajagopal, Eric Khoo (whose film reportedly has a cameo by Juliette Binoche!) and Tan Pin Pin, whose last documentary, To Singapore, With Love, was banned last year.

There will be lots of pertinent local issues tackled in the film, including migration and reclamation, as well as slightly more twee topics like memory and forgotten HDB flats. One thing for sure though, it is a project that will appeal across the board. The film will be the first to play at the refurbished Capitol Theatre for a limited three day screening from Jul 24-26.
