The 4th Salaya International Documentary Film Festival, aka Salaya Doc, returns this year to screen documentary films at two venues: the Film Archive in Salaya (94, Moo 3, Phuttamonthon Sai 5 Rd.) from Mar 22-30 and at the BACC from Mar 25-28 and Mar 30.

The Songs of Rice (Film Archive, Mar 29, 6pm). Recent winner of the Critics’ Prize at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, this third installment in Uruphong Raksasad’s (Agrarian Utopia) “rice trilogy” takes another look at a farming community in Northern Thailand.

At Berkeley (Film Archive, Mar 22, pm) (BACC, Mar 25, 4:30pm). Frederick Wiseman’s four-hour-long documentary explores student life and the on-campus constituencies at the historic University of California, Berkeley.

Moving to Mars (Film Archive, Mar 27, 5:30pm) (BACC,Mar 28, 5:30pm). Mat Whitecross’ heart-warming documentary follows the life-changing journey of two Burmese families who move from a refugee home in Thailand to a completely new environment in the UK.

Rough Aunties (Film Archive Mar 26, 4:30pm) (BACC, Mar 30, 5pm). Awarded the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance 2009, Kim Longinotto’s feature revolves around a multiracial cadre of women who take a stance to protect the abused and neglected children of Durban, South Africa.
