The Delegation of the European Union to Thailand presents the annual European Union Film Festival at SF World Cinema (7/F, CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Rd., 089-685-5253) from May 16-26 before traveling to Khon Kaen (Jun 1-2) and Chiang Mai (Jun 13-23). The program includes 18 films from 15 European Union member countries. Each will screen in its original language with English subtitles, while the five highlight films listed below will also have Thai subtitles.
Tomboy (France, 2011): After her family moves outside Paris, 10-year-old girl Laure finds she’s the new kid in town and tries to make friends by dressing and acting like a boy and giving herself a new name, Mikael.
Cool Kids Don’t Cry (The Netherlands, 2012): Tough schoolgirl Akkie loves football and is looking forward to the upcoming tournament until she is suddenly diagnosed with leukemia. When her health rules her out of the competition, her classmate Joep jumps in with a special backup plan.
A Morte de Carlos Gardel (Portugal, 2011): With young drug addict Nuno on his death-bed, his father Alvaro struggles to accept the truth, transforming his passion for tango into a dangerous obsession.
Medal of Honor (Romania, 2009): When 75-year-old Ion receives a Medal of Honor for heroic actions he can barely remember during World War II, he is forced to reconsider his whole life.
Frozen Silence (Spain, 2011): Soldier Arturo Andrade sets out to investigate a murder after a body is found in Russia with the mysterious text carved on its chest: “Watch out, God is watching you.”

3 (Germany, 2010): The story of the unusual relationship between Hanna and Simon, who are married for over 20 years until they both fall in love with the same “guy” named Adam.
A Wonderful Summer (Poland, 2011): 18-year-old Kitka can communicate with the spirit of her dead mother, who cannot rest until her daughter finds the right guy.
Beyond (Sweden, 2010): Leena receives a call from the hospital saying that her mother is going to die, which brings back dark memories of abuse and alcoholism.
Free admission and reservations can be made at the European Union Film Festival booths 30 minutes before screenings.
