THEATER: Bang-La-Merd: The Land I Do Not Own

B-Floor Theatre’s Ornanong Thaisriwong opens a new run of her Best Original Script award winning play from 2012 at Thong Lor Art Space this Thursday. The minimalist, one-woman play touches upon issues of freedom in Thai society.

THEATER: Brundibar

In commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, Opera Siam and the Embassies of the Czech Republic and Israel present Hans Krasa's fairytale, originally performed for the first time by the child inmates of Terezin Concentration Camp. ART/FILM: #jesuischowhy

The controversial artist Stephff pays tribute to Charlie Hebdo's victims with his new work at Cho Why. French crepes from Breizh Crepes and a selection of beers from Beervana available on the night, along with the screening of post-apocalyptic dflim Delicatessen from 9pm onwards. See trailer above.

COMEDY: Whose Line? The Improv Comedy Show

FILM: Brazilian Film Maker

The good folks over at Speedy Grandma host a special screening of five short films by Brazil-based filmmakers Lara Jacoski and Patrick Belem this Friday. Each film focuses on social controversies in various parts of the world, including the US, UK, Brazil and India. Both directors will be at the event, taking part in a Q&A discussion about the screened films, as well as ideas for their new project on Thailand’s social issues.

ART: Threshold Part 2 

Bridge Art Space launches the second part its highly-touted Threshold exhibition series on Jan 24. The diverse group exhibition gathers a diverse range of artists, including Sayumphorn Janthasorn, Justin Mills, Rebecca Vickers, Karma Sirikogar, Christian Hogue, Anjali Mandrekar, Chip Seven and Dan Burman.

ART: The Real Alaska

The new vintage-style bicycle shop/café Sora City debuts its first rotating exhibition with the work of Benz Thanachart this Saturday, with the first 50 artbooks available on sale at noon. The artist will also give a talk at 1pm, titled "What Camera are You Using?" You can view the artwork while enjoying that cup of blue soda (B100). Note: there is also a bike parking area with locks available for those arriving by pedal power.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Winter Jazz and Arts Festival

The penultimate event of the live jazz series in the courtyard of the National Gallery will feature local artists Nu Vudthivichai, Gift, Vahn and Noon from The Voice Thailand, Mint Passakorn, Singha Kanong-na, and Sunny Trio with Jakob Dinesen. B150 tickets for students. While you're there, don't forget to check out John Thomson's epic ongoing exhibition as well.

FILM: Mini Wathann Film Fest: Introducing Myanmar Films

The Reading Room, in collaboration with Filmvirus and Wathann Film Fest, holds a two-day Mini Wathann Film Fest in Bangkok, screening selected Burmese films from 1pm onwards. FOODIE EVENT: Vedett Extra White Draught Launch with Stylish Nonsense

On Jan 24, from 8pm onwards, the popular Japanese-Fusion restaurant Salt hosts a white-themed party to introduce a new draft beer on tap: Belgium’s Vedett Extra White. Though only launched in 2008, Vedett Extra White has had a reputation among Thai beer drinkers for a while now thanks to its bottled products at popular bars like Brew, Hobs and Bitter Sweet, but this is the first time it’s been available on tap. Expect food pairings plus live music from experimental electronic duo Stylish Nonsense and Deejay Luck E.

Sunday (Jan 25) 

SPORT: Thai Sikh Run

Failed to sign up for your next marathon? For those looking for a last minute run this weekend, registratgion is still open till the day of the race at Siri Guru Singh Sabha. The 21st charity run organized by the Central Organization of Sikhs in Thailand features runs of three diffferent distances around the Old Town: 21km (B500), 10km and 5km (B300). Trophies for the top five in each category, and prize money for the top three 21km runners. All finishers receive a goody bag at the finish line.

The group dominated the UK chart last year with their self-titled debut album and the catchy hit, “Chocolate.”
