Taste Ayutthaya-era palace cuisine with R.Haan's new summer menu
You won’t find these dishes anywhere else.
Since opening in March last year, Thonglor's R.Haan has gained a reputation for elevating traditional Thai cuisine to fine-dining status. Here, forgotten recipes are resurrected in a sleek setting that conjures up elements of the early Rattanakosin era.
To celebrate the runaway success of their first year, R.Haan’s celeb chef Chumpol Jangprai has launched the "Royal Summer" menu, which focuses is on hard-to-find dishes that were served in the palace in the Ayutthaya period (a 400-year period that ran roughly from 1350-1767).
In selecting recipes that were specifically reserved for the summertime, chef Chumpol keeps the focus on seasonal ingredients, which also means the menu will only be available through Jun 9 (weekends only, 11am-2:30pm).
The a la carte menu include appetizers like coconut smoked pork sausage with ground coconut (B350), fresh abalone with Thai herbs (B320), and spicy raw ant egg salad (B320), while mains include Korat wagyu beef green curry with crispy roti (B590) and aromatic khao chae (rice in iced jasmine scented water, B712).
For dessert, the pandan vermicelli with Thai melon and sweetened coconut milk (B180) and the aromatic kaffir lime and plango in scented syrup (B250) are both must-orders.
R.Haan is also currently taking part in BK Magazine’s new chef-led dining series, Top Tables Champions. Priced at just B1,800 per person for four courses and an amuse bouche and available from Mar 22-26 and Mar 29, you can check out the menu here.
R.Haan, 131 Sukhumvit Soi 53, 02-059-0433. Open daily 6-11pm
