Make sure to mark your calendars for July 14 aka Bastille Day aka the most important national holiday in France. If you’re a little rusty on your French history, the day references the anniversary of the fall of the Bastille prison when, in 1789, a mob of citizens overtook the prison and released the prisoners, and consequently became one of the first major events of the French Revolution. In 1880, July 14 was officially declared a national holiday. In France, the country goes all-out (think the 4th of July in the US), including with a large military parade along the famous Champs-Elysées in the center of Paris.

While those of us here in Bangkok sadly won’t be getting this Friday off, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate Bastille Day over on this side of the world. Specifically, a number of bars and restaurants around town are launching exclusive drinks menus featuring the fittingly French Citadelle Gin.
