White truffle menus and a visiting Michelin-star chef: This week's Bangkok foodie news
Mark these dates in your dining diary.
Chef Luca Appino of La Bottega Di Luca is dead serious about his white truffles, as evidenced by his refusal to bid for the first batch of produce at the 2014 Alba White Truffle Fair in Piamonte, Italy, which he deemed inferior. From Oct 20 onwards, Appino and his partner in crime at La Bottega Di Luca, Manuelo Pintore, will whip up a menu focusing on the fine Alba produce he did bring back from the auction, with dishes such as Jerusalem artichoke cream, seared Hokkaido scallop and Alba white truffle (B1,190) and the simple Alba white truffle (three grams of the stuff) and homemade angel hair pasta (B999). On Nov 11, Appino will collaborate with Giuglio Saverino of Wine ‘n’ About for a four-course Alba white truffle menu (B5,400) with dishes such as roasted guinea fowl breast, Alba sausage roll and purple potato paired with traditional Italian wines, craft beers and even sake. 2/F, Terrace 49, Sukhumvit Soi 49, 02-204-1731. Open daily 11am-midnight. BTS Thong Lo
