Make it Personal

Want to make these drinks for your friends? Here are three tips.

1.You don’t need that much gear. Just get a Boston shaker (the kind with a big glass tumbler and a metal one), a long bar spoon, a jigger (the thing used to measure liquids) and a strainer so that the ice stays in the shaker when you pour the drink.

2.When you’re using the bar spoon, keep it touching the glass, don’t shake it around in the drink. You want to create a vortex that pulls all the ingredients down and mixes them uniformly.

3. Shaken or stirred? Shake cocktails when they include mixers like fruit juices (including lime or lemon) or egg whites (used to make frothy drinks like whiskey sours). Stir when it’s a booze-forward drink that contains only spirits, like a negroni or martini.
