D’Ark

This bright and airy temple to brunch culture covers all the bases, from lazy eggy breakfasts to burgers to elaborate multi-course dinners. Most come for the kitchen’s housebaked danishes and croissants, complemented by coffee made from the beans of specialty Australian roaster Phillip Di Bella. Claim a table on the second floor for spectacular views of the dangling-bulb-strewn cafe scene.

Ekkamai Macchiato

From a sun-dappled, mid-century modern house that looks as much a furniture showroom as a cafe, a bevy of baristas work their magic on blends and single-origins from local roasting bigwigs
like Bottomless. Cold brew, pourover and espresso meet chocolate drinks, green tea lattes and fruit shakes on a wide-ranging menu. To go with, forget eggs Benedict and opt for one of the rich
and spicy Thai rice bowls. Clock off from the working day with an “adult affogato,” spiked with Grand Marnier.
6/2 Ekkamai Soi 12, 061-369-4166, 080-169-9824. Open Mon, Wed-Fri 8am-6pm; Tue 8am-4pm; Sat-Sun 9am-6pm.

Hands and Heart

This black-and-white cafe has a thing for Japan. The minimalist decor takes its cues from Teshima Art Museum, while the coffee focuses on the handbrewed stuff (Aeropress, pour-over and Chemex) beloved of meticulous Japanese baristas. They claim to use only seasonal AA-grade single origin beans.
Ascella Condominium, 33 Sukhumvit Soi 38, 081-553-3585. Open daily 7am-7pm.

Kaizen Coffee Co.

This chic all-white enterprise brings a taste of Melbourne coffee culture to the quiet end of Ekkamai. Served alongside the long blacks and flat whites are a range of nitrogen-brewed concoctions, decadent shakes made with Guss Damn Good ice cream and experimental tea drinks. Extra points for the knowledgeable baristas and their infectious coffee-nerd enthusiasm. Start your day right with a strong cap’ and an egg and bacon brioche.
Tai Ping Tower, 582/5 Ekkamai Soi 26 and 28, 064-016- 3038. Open daily 8am-6pm.

Luka Moto

This handsome follow-up to a Sathorn favorite will have you eating your breakfast burrito while lusting over retro-style big bikes thanks to a partnership with BMW. Feast on “Gangnam style”  crunchy chicken thigh on a kimchi waffle with poached egg or the sweet and savory French toast. If you want to skip on the coffee, they’ll even pour you punchy bloody Mary.

One Ounce for Onion

All whitewashed walls, raw concrete floors and custom wooden furniture, this sleek cafe attached to hipster-favorite boutique Onion pulls in a fashion-forward crowd with its pastas, baked egg dishes and waffles. The weekend heats up with rotating specials like a “Farmer’s Hamburg” served up in a hot pan. You can always rely on the beans of Brave Roasters, whether used in classic coffee offerings or put to work in more tropical-leaning experimental forms.

Patom Organic Living

Occupying a glasshouse surrounded by greenery, this charming cafe follows up on its claims of “organic” and “sustainable.” Meals here are all about certified organic ingredients sourced from the Sampran network of farmers, meaning fresh fruits and vegetables feature in lunch boxes and salads, while the coffee comes from traceable roots. A community garden adds to the feel-good factor.

The Commons

Thonglor’s loft-like community mall is headlined by brunch institution Roast and its coffee-roasting sibling Roots. Amid an industrial-cool setting, Roast turns out food high on comfort factor and flavor: rustic fries, tender steaks and all the requisite eggy dishes. Downstairs, Roots appeases coffee snobs with an ever-changing list of cold brews. Don’t forget to take home some bean beans from the north, too.

The Coffee Club

The proliferation across town of this Aussie-born cafe is good news for anyone who’s ever bemoaned the poxy portions at most of Bangkok’s brunch cafe elite. From pancakes to eggs Benedict to smashed avo—the menu reads like a greatest hits of Western brekkie dishes. Now you’ll also find a great emphasis on Thai dishes as well as genuinely creative coffee options, like the refreshing yuzu citrus lemon cold brew.

You’ll face a battle for a table at this sun-dappled dining room. The airy blond-wood surrounds are just made for long hours catching up over flat whites and Aussie-inspired plates of smashed avocado. Save room for the French toast (crunchy, cake-like and big enough to feed a family).
