Masa Garden

Located in Phrom Phong, the restaurant emphasizes privacy and spaciousness compared to its predecessors at Thonglor and Siam Paragon. What you come here for is the Wagyu beef and a variety of Japanese dishes, including sukiyaki, shabu shabu, and nabe kimchi. Regulars come for the Masa Garden Bakudan, a seafood sashimi appetizer paired with grilled seaweed for a somewhat hands-on dining experience.

Ginza Tenharu

This was arguably the very first proper tempura omakase restaurant to hit Bangkok when it opened years ago, boasting an army of skilled Japanese chefs and ingredients sourced daily from Japan. It was also the brand’s first international branch outside Singapore. The design, inspired by traditional Japanese tea houses, features light wood furnishings and a minimalist aesthetic—as to be expected. The 12-seat counter surrounds an open kitchen, where chefs expertly slice and fry at glass-enclosed cooking stations. First visits should always include the fried Hokkaido scallops, Wagyu beef, and sea urchin-stuffed nori, served one piece at a time in the omakase tradition.

3/F, Gaysorn Village, Phloen Chit Rd., 02-070-0014. Open Tues-Sun, 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30-10pm.

Diners have just 40 minutes to slurp down their noodles, and this dining experience has been a hit with Bangkok who just can’t get enough of Chef Shinji Inoue’s bowls. This is a chef who keeps innovating and will keep the Bangkok noodle scene on its toes.
