All of BK's restaurant reviews for June 2018
The restaurants we ranked out of ★★★★★ this month.
The discovery of a tasty new Isaan spin-off; a visit to an underrated sushi joint; a trip to a buzzing Thonglor all-rounder; and an Italian meal at one of EmQuartier's most buzzing restaurants—those are just some of the food adventures BK's had this month, and here's what we thought of them. Like always, each of these reviews was conducted anonymously and to our exacting food review standards (you can read about those here). "Not all Isaan dinners can be sweat-soaked shirts and buttock-destroying plastic stools. We have no shame in admitting our love for this city’s league of mall-dwelling, well-air-conditioned, easy-to-franchise Isaan joints such as this one."
"This compact restaurant may not have the most enticing design but Hokkai-Don presents a decent sushi bar without the painful price tags."
"You can’t put Viva Thonglor’s menu in a box like 'international,' 'Thai' or 'Australian' ... [the] menu has enough high points and variation to merit repeated exploring. Mix in the vibe, drinks and layout and you have a good launchpad for night in Thonglor."
"We’d expect less erratic execution for those prices, but a glance around the packed dining room—where truffle oil wafts through the air, and shellfish-topped pizza and pasta options are the norm—suggests there are plenty of people happy to pay them."
