We're excited about the new Indian Heritage Centre for all kinds of reasons: the well-informed docents giving free tours all month, the interactive touchscreen displays, the magnificent old doorways that anchor each of the galleries, the culture fest happening all of May.

But the most exciting of all is the IHC's promise to screen free Indian movies every Sunday night in May. The first few screenings focus on films that were shot at least partially in Singapore. They're free and start at 7pm.

On Sunday, May 17, catch Tamil romantic tragedy Ninaithale Inikkum (1979) starring Kollywood heavy-hitters Kamal Hassan, who plays a musician on tour in Singapore, and campy-cool action star Rajinikanth. On May 24, they're screening 1978 Tamil blockbuster Priya, starring iconic Indian actress Sridevi, who plays a movie star being exploited by her manager while shooting a film in Singapore.

If Hindi-language Bollywood is more your thing, May 31 has another star-studded 1960s gem: Singapore, a crime thriller involving found treasure at a rubber plantation on the red dot. We saw the trailer and can't wait to watch Singaporean locals in Bollywood dance numbers. See exhibit A below:
