As part of the annual French Film Festival, the French Embassy in Thailand has selected two highly successful French films to screen under the stars as part of Cine-picnic on the romantic occasion of Valentine’s Day (Feb 14), from 7pm onwards at Museum Siam (4 Sanam Chai Rd., Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, 02-225-2777). First up is The Artist (2011), winner of five Oscars, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor, at the 84th Academy Awards. This a silent romantic-comedy in black and white depicts the rise and fall of a silent era movie star due to the introduction of “talking pictures” in the 1920s-1930s. Then it’s Intouchables (2012), nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Golden Globes Awards, which explores the heart-warming relationship between a quadraplegic millionaire, Philippe, and his caretaker, Driss, who was just released from jail. Films are screened with Thai and English subtitles. As it’s a picnic, food is permitted.
