On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death, Srilaya Movie Theater is dedicating the month of August to Rattana Pestonji, one of the first Thai directors to shoot in 35mm and regarded by many as the father of modern Thai cinema.

The “Remembering Rattana Pestonji” program will screen six films directed by Pestonji throughout the month of August, all in 35mm, with English subtitles and free of cost. Aug 6. Chuafah Din Salai (Forever Yours), 5:30pm. Aug 12. Phrae Dum (Black Silk), 1pm. Aug 14. Sawan Mued (Dark Heaven), 1pm. Aug 17. Rongraem Narok (Country Hotel), 5:30pm. Aug 24. Namtarn Mai Warn (Sugar Is Not Sweet), 5:30pm. Aug 29. Niw Petch (Diamond Finger) and a documentary on Rattana Pestonji’s life (shot on digital, incidentally).

On Aug 13, 2:30-6pm, there will be a panel discussion on the new generation’s perspective on the films of Rattana Pestonji, led by critics such as Chayanin Tiangpitayagorn, Chanchana Homsup, and Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke
