Mai Muengderm’s all-time classic folk tale is about to get yet another film remake. This time it comes from ML Bhandevanov Devakula, the veteran dramatist whose recent films include (the rather disappointing) Jan Dara the Beginning (2013) and At the Gate of the Ghost (2011). Plae Kao (The Scar), also known as Kwan Riam, is a tragedy set in 1936 Bang Kapi and centers on two lovers, Kwan and Riam, who are born to rival families who attempt to put an end to their romance at any cost. Lovebird Riam will be played by Mai Dawika, following up her appearance in last year’s mega ghost-comedy blockbuster Phee Mak Phrakanong, while up-and-coming Chaiyapol Julien Poupart plays the love-scarred Kwan. The film is in early-production and should be in cinemas near year-end.
