Coming out this March, Phu Bao Tai Baan E-San Indy, the first film under E-San Indy Film Studio by Uten Sririwi (Real, 2008) and Jinnapat Ladarat (Remembering Pupan, 2011) has us excited at the prospect of a Northeastern comedy that’s not entirely based slapstick silliness. Having spent three years to research and understand Isaan culture, the directors are promising a sincere depiction of the region with the all-local cast speaking in original dialect, along with a klon lum soundtrack featuring the authentic sounds of kaen and pin. Though the storyline is said follow an upcountry boy (Thanachart “Arty” Tulyachat) who longs for his lover’s return while pursuing his dream of making a film, reading into its tagline, “Just one chicken and you cannot even look after it,” we’re expecting something pretty light-hearted. Due in cinemas this March.
