Step aside fancy film festivals, there's a new, grungy, local sheriff in town. Singapore's first alternative film festival, Scumscope, by the Scum Cinema boys, will screen some creepy, bizarre, morbid and macabre films from Oct 15-29. The festival opens with Dark Star: H.R. Giger's World, a documentary about the morbid obsessions of the famous set designer, known for his work for the movie, Alien.

Other creepy offerings include Basket Case, and Without Warning; the former film is about a man bent on taking revenge on the surgeon who separated a twin from him at birth, and the latter is a horror movie involving aliens. The last film on the list is Damnationland, a showcase of scary films by moviemakers from Maine.

Tickets to Dark Star: H.R. Giger's World, cost $13, while the other screenings are free. Find out more about this film festival here.
