It seems like film festival season has arrived in Singapore with short-film festival Perspectives happening Oct 15-18, the Singapore International Film Festival on Nov 26-Dec 6 and Objectifs' woman-centric film fest starting Oct 22.

Next in line is the 23rd Israel Film Festival, which is back with six critically acclaimed films showing at (relatively unsexy) GV VivoCity come Oct 21-27. The most exciting part is that the festival is back with a roster of woman-centric films that examine the struggles of women, whether they're in the army or workplace, in Israel and the world.

Most notably, the festival opens with Zero Motivation, a Tribeca Film Festival award-winning dramedy about two female soldiers trying to complete their mandatory military service. Director Tayla Lavie will host a post-screening discussion. Other films include GETT - The Trial of Viviane Amsalem, a Golden Globe-nominated film about a woman battling to obtain a divorce in the rabbinical court; The Good Son that tells the story of a 22-year-old male who secretly finances his sex change operation in Thailand by lying to his parents and Bethlehem, a gritty film about the relationship between an Israeli Secret Service officer and his teenage Palestinian informant.
