A celebration of the Japanese cinematic arts.
For those hungry for the taste of Japan after cancelling vacation plans, The Japan Foundation has announced the “Japanese Film Festival – House Edition” from Nov 13-Nov 22 at House Samyan.
Opening with “Talking the Pictures” by Masayuki Suo, nominated for several categories at the 43rd Japan Academy Film Prize including Screenplay of the year and Director of the year, the festival will feature 15 films of various genres with both Thai and English subtitles. Fans of Takashi Shimizu, famous director of “Ju-On: The Grudge,” can look forward to his film “Howling village” while those who love “Tora-san,” created by Atsumi Kiyoshi, can enjoy the series’ 50th feature installation “Tora-san, Wish You Were Here.”
The opening event and film premier of “Talking the Pictures” will begin on Nov 11 at 7pm and 7:30pm, respectively.
What’s different this year is that the festival further extends to an online platform. The online Japanese Film Festival begins on Nov 22 and will run through to Nov 29 for free on the festival’s website. Registration and the list of online films will be announced on Nov 6 on the festival’s Facebook event page.
Tickets to the screenings are B160 (general audiences), with discounted prices for House Samyan members and students. Online ticketing can be found at www.housesamyan.com.
