Following in the footsteps of the 9th World Film Festival of Bangkok, other educational and cultural organizations are also hosting a variety of film festivals this month. The Science Film Festival (through Jan 31) is organized by the Goethe Institute in Thailand, which gathers over 150 science films from all over the world and will be screening at different venues throughout the program like TK Park (8/F, Central World, Rama 1 Rd.) and Thai Film Archive (94, Moo 3, Salaya). Next up, the 6th Bangkok Experimental Film Festival (through Feb 5) extends the boundaries of filmmaking with its showcase of short films, documentaries and footage from Thai-inter independent film institutes, like Hanoi Doc Lab and Experimenta India, along with rare pieces from the Thai Film Archive. One of the highlights is the experimental documentary World Without End (1953), by the British documaker Basil Wright and Paul Rotha. Screenings are at various venues. The Hua Hin International Film Festival (through Jan 29) is organized by The Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The event features more than 50 movies from ASEAN countries and from Hollywood, including Aung San Suu Kyi’s biopic The Lady and Japanese romantic drama Always, screening at Major Cineplex Hua Hin.
