Floating in a flotation therapy tank is said to have untold health benefits, from providing pain relief to lifting brain fog. It's a wellness trend that's found pockets of cult-like support all over the globe, including Bangkok. But for the uninitiated the experience can be a little daunting, not least because of the lofty asking prices.

This month, however, Theta State Float Center, Bangkok's first flotation center, is turning two, and it's celebrating with a tasty 25-percent discount for first-timers (available through the end of 2016). That equates to a saving of B500 off the B1,950 regular price for an hour's float.

What to expect? The center's futuristic float pods and rooms are each soundproof and lightproof, filled with 25cm of dense, skin-temperature Epsom saltwater, which allows you to float effortlessly on the surface, removing all body pressure points in the process. If you're lucky, you'll reach theta, a meditation-like state typified by heightened receptivity and creative inspiration.
