We were bursting with excitement two years ago when Annie Leibovitz's A Photographer's Life came to the ArtScience Museum, and we're doing the same now, upon hearing that her new show Women: New Portraits, is opening in Singapore next week, part of a 10-city world tour with commissioning partner UBS. Even more exciting: the venue is not a fancy museum but a very special, historic space.

Free to the public, Women: New Portraits opens on April 29 at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and will run till May 22. If that seems like a gritty venue for someone who previously showed at the Marina Bay Sands, it's quite apt for the format of the show: large-scale paper printouts pasted to the walls, supplemented by giant screens. 

The photographer's original Women series was published in 1999 in collaboration with her partner Susan Sontag, but has since seen the addition of contemporary movers and shakers. New portraits include Misty Copeland (the first African American principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre), Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and feminist activist and scholar Gloria Steinem.

We understand that only a portion of the whole collection will be shown. We'll be curious to see if her portrait of Caitlyn Jenner, whose recently came out as trans and whose Vanity Fair cover shot by Leibovitz received much attention, will make the cut in Singapore. 

The Vanity Fair photographer responsible for some of the most iconic pop culture images of the past few decades, Leibovitz's feminist reinterpretation of the infamous, breast-filled Pirelli calendar late last year is her most recent claim to fame.
