Jul 12, 2011. Fans waited over an hour to see Silverstein play, and when the band finally came on a little past 9pm after a prolonged soundcheck, they just said a quick hello to the crowd before tearing straight into “Vices.” We’d heard the 100-capacity White Studio (although it looked like over 200 people turned up) was booked until 10pm, so no time to waste.

While the boys were relentless in their delivery throughout the gig, we couldn’t say the same for their equipment. Some in the crowd said the guitars sounded fuzzy, and we could hear the mic crackle every now and then. Still, props must be given to lead vocalist Shane Told for effortlessly alternating between screaming and singing in tune through all the songs, despite the heat and humidity (the air-conditioning in the room did nothing to prevent the rivers of sweat pouring from him).

Indeed, with a shortened time slot, we were worried the band wouldn’t be able to play their entire planned set list. But the songs just kept flowing, with Shane apologizing for taking so long to get to Singapore at one point and thanking the crowd for coming to see them at a few points in the set. The band even managed to squeeze in a short intermission before a three-song encore. Fans would surely have been satisfied with the full 16-song set the band managed to pull off in just over an hour.

This was an all-ages event, which meant no booze sold on premises. This would be a weird thing for those of you used to the availability of alcohol at gigs. Especially rock ones.
