Weekends in Aug and Sep will see the Museum Siam Bangkok host special talk sessions under the theme of ‘Thai Identity’ focusing on seven different aspects of the arts with guest speakers from each field. The program includes:
Aug 18, 1pm. Graphic Design and Thai Identity. Hosted by leading graphic designers Santi Lawrachawee and Pairoj Pittayamatee and typographer Pairoj Teeraprapa.
Aug 25, 1pm. Nude and Thai Society. This session, led by veteran nude photographer Niwat Kongpien and renowned contemporary artist Manit Sriwanichpoom, will discuss the issue of nudity in Thai photography, especially in regards to cultural traditions.
Aug 25, 5pm. Thai Identity in Today’s Cinema. More and more local films are receiving international acclaim, but how is Thainess being received by global audiences? This question will be discussed by independent filmmaker Aditya Assarat (whose latest film Hi-So will also be screened after the session) and one of GTH’s busiest directors, Songyos Sugmakanan.
Sep 2, 1pm. How to Enjoy Wall Art. Hosted by writer and film critic Pornchai Viriyaprapanon and art historian Santi Leksukhum, with a quick tour of Wat Pho afterwards.
Sep 8, 1pm. How to Run a Museum. Go behind the scenes of various exhibitions with museum designer Kirin Tummanon and House of Museum owner Anek Navikmul.
Sep 15, 1pm. The Future of Museums. Asst Prof Dr. Chutisant Kerdvibulvech and Kijja Samkijja look at developing museums for the online world.
Sep 15, 5pm. Thai Poetry is Still Alive. A discussion helmed by three generations of writers and poets, including SEA Write Award-winner Jeeranan Pitpreecha, Pojanart Pojanapitak and Tul Waitoonkiat aka Tul Apartmentkhunpa.
