[Sponsored] Preserving our street food is a hot topic now, and Tiger Beer's on a roll with their movement to save Singapore's street food. Besides shining the spotlight on our fast-disappearing hawker culture through videos that take audiences through a day in the life of a hawker, they are also pledging 20 cents for every six-can pack purchased from Apr 1 to May 31. Now, Tiger Beer is encouraging Singaporeans to support their local street food by distributing food coupons at hawker centers across Singapore.

The venues are kept hush-hush, but make your local hawker center or coffee shop your favorite lunch or dinner haunt from now through May, and you just might run into a flash mob dishing out these vouchers that can be used at the designated hawker center on the same day. The first two events kicked off at Soon Hong Food House in Tampines (Apr 20) and at 805 Hougang Central (Apr 27), both of which were packed with hungry diners tucking into hearty hawker plates.
We were at one of the events, and it was something to see: so much bustle and enthusiasm, so many plates of food flying around, so many happy hordes taking food photos on their phones.
With the recent influx of trendy cafes and restaurants, it's easy to forget our hawker heritage. By reminding Singaporeans of their favorite local dishes, the recent campaigns encourage a continued support for this vanishing trade. Need more reason to get excited about hawker food? Got a long-favorite hawker dish you can't live without? Sadly, aging hawkers, changing trends and a lack of interest among children of veteran hawkers mean it might not be around forever. Show your appreciation by heading down and taking a picture. Don't forget to #UNCAGESTREETFOOD and share the love.
