Francophonie Festival is back with films, concerts and visits from comic book artists
Film screenings, talks and exhibitions are some of the things happening.
Good old Alliance Francaise is at it again, bringing back its Francophonie Festival, celebrating all things French over 13 days, from Mar 11-23, with film screenings, talks, exhibitions and concerts.
Opening the festival is an exhibition called 33 Years with “Les Triples” paying tribute to the famed Nicole Lambert comic strip in Madame Figaro about the adventures of triplets who live in Paris with their mother, grandfather and French bulldog. Comic fans should also seize the change to meet the artist on Mar 11, 5.30pm.
As for the films, a total of eight screenings are happening this year, including It’s Only the End of the World, about a gay playwright struggling with terminal illness who returns home after 12 years to break the news, and As I Open My Eyes, a film set during the civil resistance campaign in Tunisia, where a teenage rock singer continues to rebel despite being tracked by the police.
Another highlight of the festival are the concerts: there's French surf-rock, pop band La Femme; O’, a solo project by Olivier Marguerit who has been a part of bands like Syd Matters, Chiros and Mina Tindle; and Belgian singer-songwriter Axelle Red who will be here for her tour performing songs from her album Acoustic.
Ticket prices range from $7-19. More information here.
