[SPONSORED] Hong Kong is a huge arts hub, as you no doubt already know, and at no time is this more true than during the month of March, when dozens of arty events, both big and small, converge to deliver oohs, aahs and amazing Instagram opportunities. Here’s where to catch some click-worthy art in Hong Kong this month.

In the street

Graffiti on Hollywood Road

Running from Sheung Wan to Central, Hollywood Road is famous for its art galleries, antique shops and quirky architecture. It’s also currently covered with exciting outdoor graffiti, and online travel agent Klook is leading a special SoHo Gallery Walk that covers all that, along with highlights from SoHo’s top galleries, emerging trends in the regional and global art scene and even a behind-the-scenes look into art valuation. There’s a guided tour every Saturday at 11am in English, and a tour in Mandarin at 2:30pm.

Event Horizon

Graffiti not your thing? Those into surprising installation art should keep their eyes peeled for Event Horizon by British artist Atony Gormley, said to be the biggest public art installation ever in Hong Kong. It’s a collection of 31 body-shaped sculpture pieces around Central, both at street level and perched on buildings. The catch? There’s no map. You just have to walk around until you stumble upon one—feel free to interact with them, too. The sculptures will remain on display till May 18.

On staircases

Hong Kong on Steps

If you’ve never been to PMQ in Hong Kong, there’s no better time to visit than now. The former Police Married Quarters—now a bustling design hub, with studio spaces for creatives, unique fashion labels and restaurants and cafes—has unveiled Hong Kong on Steps, where design collective and artists from around the region come together to paint 25 staircases with designs inspired by Hong Kong. Don’t forget to have dinner at Aberdeen Street Social, a new venture by chef Jason Atherton (of Singapore’s Esquina fame) when you're there.

On the subway

                                                                                                    Art@MTR

You don’t even have to go out of your way to discover art in Hong Kong this month—it’s right there on the subway. Part of “art in mtr – arttube initiative”, which provides a platform to performers and artists throughout the year, the special Art@MTR exhibition works with multi-disciplinary artists from the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre to place 13 pieces at the MTR Central Station (Exit J). The exhibition runs till Apr 30.

In glitzy showcases

Art Basel Hong Kong

If spending the day window shopping for collectible art by high-end galleries from around your world is more to your taste, there are two high-profile art shows taking place in late March. The Hong Kong edition of the famous Art Basel is back for a fourth time and will showcase a whopping 239 galleries from Mar 24-26, alongside a documentary film series and a program of artist talks and panel discussions.

Art Central--Thomas Canto

There’s also the younger, hipper Art Central, happening Mar 23-26 with Victoria Harbour as its dramatic background and a special focus on emerging artists from Hong Kong. There will also be showcases of artists from Indonesia, South America, South Korea and other countries.

On stage

It’s not just about visual arts in March. If you go before Mar 20, you can catch the tail end of The 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival, the big annual performing arts showcase comprising theater, music, opera, dance and even circus. Highlights include a production of The Sleeping Beauty by the Mikhailovsky Ballet (Mar 17-19), Peter Brook’s anticipated Mahabharata follow-up Battlefield (Mar 16-20) and HK theater heavy-hitter Tang Shu-wing’s Cantonese adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Mar 16-20).

Hong Kong Arts Month runs till March 31, with several programs continuing into April. For more information, click here.
