It’s not often you get to see sumo wrestlers battle it out in the ring—less so in Bangkok. Billed as the first traditional sumo wrestling match in Thailand, the event is part of a cultural showcase celebrating 136 years of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Japan.
In partnership with the Japanese embassy, the event will feature wrestlers from Sumo Experience in Japan from Jul 6-9. Top ranked athletes of komusubi and makushita rank putting on a showing of Japan’s favorite sport.
As part of the wider “Siam Paragon the Wondrous Japan Heritage” event, there will also be Japanese fan dance and Yosakoi dance, free workshops in origami, snacks, Thai artists from SalaArte creating gashapon toys and comics.
For the sumo, there will be two shows per day during the event from 2pm to 5pm, which will also feature taiko drum and traditional dance performances.
Walk-in visitors are welcome, but there are only 300 seats per round; reservations can be made via the Onesiam SuperApp starting on Jul 5.
