Bangkok's zaniest indie band meets Sathorn's coolest bar.

Sathorn's electric late-night haunt Smalls takes a detour from its usual Wednesday jazz showcase to welcome Bangkok indie vets Stylish Nonsense on May 30

Formed way back in 1993, the experimental music duo of Yuttana "June" Kalambaheti and Wannarit "Pok" Pongprayoon are known for their uncompromising blend of post-punk and electronica, and heavily improvised live sets.

They've toured as far afield as Germany, France and Sweden, with another European tour set for July and August including stops in Paris, Porto and Berlin. For more insight into the band's raw and unpredictable approach to music, read our vintage interview with Stylish Nonsense co-founder Pok here, in which he discusses his reputation as a pioneer of Thai electronic music and why he doesn’t like big music festivals.

Nightlife kingpin David Jacobson’s absinthe-fueled, bohemian drinking den, Smalls was named Sathorn's best bar in BK's debut B.A.D. nightlife awards late last year. Every Wednesday night, the bar is soundtracked by some of the city's most exciting jazz musicians. Smalls also recently debuted at #29 on the Asia's 50 Best Bars list.

9-11pm. Smalls, 186/3 Suanphlu Soi 1, 095-585-1398. Open Wed-Sun 7pm-2am; Mon 7pm-2am. Free entry. See the Facebook event page
