Bangkok feels eerily empty without its usual gaggles of tourists, so why not make up for it by becoming a tourist yourself? Throughout June, tour operator Expique will be filling the time it usually spends ferrying around incoming visitors by holding free walking tours for locals.

On Jun 16 and 20, explore well-known sites like the Amulet Market, Wat Pho and Thammasat University as well as the lesser-known Wat Ratchapradit and Saranrom Park on the “Rattanakosin Story” tour; on Jun 23, appreciate the charms of Chinatown and Talad Noi from a tourist’s perspective; on Jun 27, head to the “other” side of the river (a.k.a. Thonburi) on the “Diversity and Harmony” tour; and on Jun 30, learn how Charoenkrung became so diverse with “Where East Meets West.” Tours are limited to 10 people each and are free of charge, though tips are welcomed. Sign up on the website.

Meanwhile, bicycle tour company Just Nok is offering free Bangkok Night Rides on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout June.
