The end of February is nearly here, and we’ve got a bevy of music, booze, food, and art events to check out this week. Tons of the city’s nightclubs are closing the month out strong, especially in the DJ set department, and one of the best live music venues in the city makes a return after a monthslong hiatus. Two of our personal favorite venues in the city are also celebrating their anniversaries this week, so there is plenty of eating, dancing, video game playing, and smoking to be done to close out Feb in style.
Thursday
Bangkok’s own DJ ONO brings big vibes and a legendary supporting cast, including DJayBuddah, MC Calo, to APT101 Thursday night for an epic night of hip-hop beats and plenty of dancing from 10pm onwards. The club has been on a roll so far this year and it looks to finish out Feb the same way it started. Tickets B500 (includes one drink), APT101.
One of the bigger names in Asia’s electronic music scene, Roza Terenzi, brings her femme-forward acid, techno, and breakbeat vibes to the best-in-class TPI sound system at 72 Courtyard’s Beam. Terenzi has headlined marquee global festivals like Dekmantel and Sonar with her particular brand on sonic chaos so the show at Beam, with its new lighting system, should be a good one. Tickets B400 (online) or B700 (door), Beam.
The Parlor at The Standard Bangkok plays host to an epic night of spoken word poetry with some of the city’s best poets. The once-a-month open mic event draws some of the best talent from around the city, so if you are a fan or looking to get on stage yourself, this is one of the best places in Bangkok to enjoy the craft. Free entry, The Parlor.
It wouldn’t be a week in events without one of the city’s most talented musicians tearing it up at Foojohn. This Thursday, one of the city’s most talented jazz guitarists hits up the Charoenkrung bar for a night of creative, off-the-cuff tunes that pair perfect with the venue’s boozy cocktails. Free entry, Foojohn.
Friday
Speakerbox is back after a monthslong hiatus and has returned to its usual programing: wall-shaking live music shows. This Friday is all about live electronica from some of Asia’s top underground talents, JVSY (Hong Kong), Tarsius (The Philipines), The Humnpan Electron (Thailand), DSL33p (Thailand), and La Yumar (Thailand). Great to see one of the city’s best live music venues back doing what it does best. Tickets B500, Speakerbox.
One of Bangkok’s most well-known salsa crews is hosting an unforgettable night of Latin dance and party vibes this Friday night at Rembrandt Hotel. Across two seperate rooms, you can take part in salsa, bachata, and kizomba from 8pm onwards. This is a night for all skill levels, and includes classes for those who want to brush up on their skills. Tickets B400 (party and non-alcoholic drink) or B500 (class, party, and non-alcoholic drink), Rembrandt Hotel.
Drinks specials, live DJs, fresh bites, and a breezy outdoor vibe, what else could you want on a Friday? Earth House is hosting its “Garden Sessions” event once again this week, with draft beer starting at B99, wine from B169, and spirits from B149 until 9pm. The DJs will be spinning house, disco, Afro, and Latin beats well past the end of happy hour, too! Free entry, Earth House.
12x12 is bringing you a taste of good old Berlin Sound Therapy this weekend, and you don’t need to face rejection by some posho techno club bouncer after waiting in line for eight hours. On Friday, justUS and Milla Lou hit up a back-to-back set to keep the vibes going late into the night. Tickets B200, 12x12.
Saturday
Havana Social, winner of BK Magazine’s best theme bar in 2024, is going hard on the Brazilian Carnival vibes this weekend with its appropriately themed street party. Dance, drink, and celebrate like you are on the streets of Rio just outside the city’s most famous Lantin club. Brazilian music and dance performances will be aplenty, as will the booze, from 3pm onwards. Tickets B500, Havana Social.
One of the real OGs of Bangkok’s Mexican food scene is turning 15 this weekend, and if you like yourself some serious smokey flavors and fusion collab between Billy’s Smokehouse and La Monita, this is your event. The two venues will bust out the Mexcian-BBQ fusion in the form of brisket tacos, Texas-style ribs, brisket nachos, and other collab plates. DJs and other live music performances will also be on the docket. Free entry, La Monita.
Bangkok’s most stylish arcade-themed bar (or is it a bar-themed arcade?) is celebrating its 3rd anniversary exactly as you would expect: tasty craft beers, retro video games, BBQ eats, tournaments, movies, kratom sodas, ya dong shots, and B100 joints. This is going to be a cookout and smoke out all in one. Free entry, Arcadia Barcade.
What better place in the city to celebrate something like mardi gras than at the city’s very own tropical rooftop dystopia? This weekend Paradise Lost is bringing the New Orleans “Fat Tuesday” vibes to Bangkok with heaps of Louisiana food, hurricane cocktails (this is a real Louisiana thing, not some joke by BK), and plenty of live music to keep the party vibes alive. Free entry, Paradise Lost.
Sunday
Keep your Sunday relaxed and educational this Sunday with a special visit to Suan Mokkh Bangkok to learn about the incredible life and work of Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, one of Thailand’s most trailblazing monks and scholars. During this special free event, explore the 2.5 hecter facility dedicated to his life’s work nearby JJ Market and experience a traditional Thai food-offering ceremony with monks, learn about the teachings of the Buddha and other Dhamma teachings.
Free entry, register here, Suan Mokkh Bangkok.
Keep the fun going this Sunday evening at Ari’s Lemonade.Date.Night (aka Parcupine cafe) for the first-ever “Drink and Draw” event hosted by art magazine Bkk Unzine. The event also acts as a fundraiser for the magazine (they’re asking for B100 to join) and hope to use it to springboard more cool events in the future. If you care about the city’s independant arts and events scene, this is a good one to support. Tickets B100, Lemonande.Date.Night.
Few things go together better than comedy and copious amounts of marijuana, and that’s the general idea behind the weekly Puff Puff Laugh event at Four Twenty each week. A rotating lineup of veteran comics take the mic to bust out their best material while you down drinks and smoke yourself into a coma. Free entry, Four Twenty.
Suan Plu’s legendary hole-in-the-wall (but somehow still fancy) cocktail and music bar is still going strong and this Sunday plays host to the legendary French musician Serge Gainsbourg, known for his unique blend of jazz and provacative pop sounds. Free entry, Smalls.
