While most motor corporations are driving ahead with their hybrid models, Nissan has quietly launched what is probably the world’s first mass produced electric car, the environmentally titled Nissan Leaf. Thanks to a fancy lithium-ion battery it produces zero-emissions yet can run for 200 km with a maximum speed at 140 km/h from an eight-hour charge. The car is available in Japan (from ¥2,984,250) and USA (from US$25,280) this month, followed by The Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland and United Kingdom (these countries have activated special tariffs for eco-friendly cars) in early 2011. Don’t hold your breath for Thailand, though. www.nissan-zeroemission.com
