Azul (Miami-Cuban)
Taking inspiration from his hometown, Miami, Florida, chef Kip Oxman (formerly of Hemingway's and Monsoon) presents what he calls "Nuevo Latino" (New Latin) cuisine at Azul. This new interpretation of Latin food borrows flavors from Cuba and other Spanish-speaking countries. Expect the likes of Peruvian scallop ceviche (B240) and Cuban sandwich (B240), as well as chili con carne (B360) and hamburgers (B380). The chef adds his own twists to certain dishes, including the use of crabmeat instead of red meat in the empanadas (stuffed pastries, B160) and delicious duck ropa vieja (normally a stewed beef, B220) served with poached egg on a grilled corn cake.

Revolucion Cocktail has said since it opened last year that the space upstairs would be a proper restaurant. Now it has finally opened as Clandestino Cantina, where Mexican chef Gabriela Espinosa offers Latin cuisine that not only includes central and South American fare but also influences from Latin-derived language-speaking countries like Italy, Spain and France. Expect dishes like tartara de pescado (salmon and sea bass tartare, B360), paella (Spanish-style fried rice, B350-410), churrasco en chimichurri (beef strip loin with chimichurri sauce, B590) and, of course, churros with chocolate (B200).
50 Sathorn Soi 10, 02-235-4823
Tucked amid the pubs and massage parlors on Asoke’s Sukhumvit Soi 23, the cozy single-unit shop-house that is Cali’s Grill 23 may be hard to spot but the little wooden terrace will tell you it’s the place. Ecuadorian owner Mauricio Zurita presents his native cuisine, using some imported ingredients and spices like achiote, in staples like llapingachos (cheese-stuffed potato pancakes, Btk), empanadas (B155/3 pieces) and ceviche (B220). Main dishes include sudado de pollo (chicken stew, B225) served with achiote-infused yellow rice, as well as Zurita’s take on the hamburger with Ecuadorian flavors (B220). Don’t miss the delicious tres leche cake (B100), too.
