Where else can you find a poisoned apple or insect tiramisu?

Catching up with the global trend of edible creepy crawlies, Insects in the Backyard has earned a lot of international attention for dishes like fresh cricket pasta with basil pesto and chorizo and lobster grasshopper bisque seafood risotto. And it’s not just a gimmick, between chef Somkiat Pairojmahakij (Seven Spoons) and chef Thitiwat Tantragarn (previously of Medicii, Sirocco and D’Sens) the menu delves deep into the plethora of insect textures. Dessert-wise, we recommend the creamy and corny-flavored silkworm pupae paired with coffee in a tiramisu.
Insects in the Backyard, Chang Chui, 460/8 Sirindhorn Rd., 02 035 7000. Open daily 4-11pm.
Ampersand Boutique serves up gelato-style ice cream amid a setting of Western-style country furniture, marble and big cushions. Choose from 14 flavors (B79 per scoop), including earl gray, butterfly pea and lime, and mango and passion fruit. They also specialize in internationally-inspired favorites, like dark chocolate, and rarer finds like the candied bacon ice cream drizzled in authentic Canadian maple syrup.
Ampersand Boutique, Baan Promphong, 147 Sukhumvit Soi 39, 02-662-0351. Open Tue-Fri noon-10pm; Sat-Sun 10am-10pm.
Next door to our favorite khao soi place, Ong Tong, sits the two-story One Dee cafe. This tiny spot serves Thai-inspired coconut desserts amid earthy decor to the sound of Thai classical songs. Try the ice cream with roti, tapioca pearls and soft bits of jelly. It’s delicious creamy, and definitely something you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in Bangkok.
Ari Soi 1, 094-146-4049. Open Mon-Fri 10am-10pm; Sat-Sun 8:30am-10pm. BTS Ari.
Turkish-born head chef Semet Mehmet draws on his experiences at Michelin-starred establishments in New York and Norway to produce Invite’s Scandinavian-focused fine-dining menu—served tapas-style with locally and internationally sourced ingredients. You’ll find lots of unique European delicacies on offer, but the Nordic inspired desserts are what’s most impressive. Dill makes its way into more than a few, like the dill granita with jelly cubes, carrot crisps, long slices of cucumber and white chocolate mousse.
Sukhumvit Soi 8, 02 254 9290. Open daily 8:30am-1am. BTS Nana.
The industrial loft-like space boasts high ceilings, wooden floors and red brick walls, while big windows let in lots of light. Head to the second floor for a taste of the great outdoors, perfect for soaking up the sun with the soundtrack of indie staples like King of Convenience and Sky Ferreira. Besides a cup of darn-good coffee made with beans sourced from Bangkok's top roasters, you can also sip on tea, beers and ciders. Do try the excellent pandan (screwpine) and coconut cake from its all-new dessert menu.
Sukhumvit Soi 26, 02 116 3308. Open daily 8am-10pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Cocotte's sister restaurant, Pesca Mar & Terra Bistro, ditches the farmhouse for the Mediterranean seaside and serves up imported seafood alongside hefty slabs of meat. While the menu is packed with all plenty of hearty foods to keep your stomach bursting, make sure to save room for dessert—the restaurant is no slouch here. Take your pick between three different styles of gourmet souffle (toffee, chocolate and passion mango), frozen pina coladas or slice into the very Instagram worthy Floating Island Raspberry (B280) with milky meringue, vanilla sauce, raspberry cream and sorbet that spill out onto the plate as you cut inside.
39 Ekkamai Soi 12, 063-267-7778. Open daily 11am-3pm, 6-11:45pm.

A truly magical setting, this dessert cafe and bar draws inspiration from your favorite fairytales. Decadent desserts such as Inferno Mountain and the fashionably presented baked apple served with apple sorbet, homemade caramel and crumble, dubbed Poisoned Apple (B260), are worth a trip alone, but the equally inventive and creative cocktail list should not be overlooked. Grab a seat in the long hall straight out of a Disney film, order a gin-based potion and live happily ever after.
Maze Thonglor, Sukhumvit Soi 55 (Thonglor), 083-386-6992. Open daily 11am-1am. BTS Thong Lo.

The crisp-yet-soft waffles at Crack make navigating the maze that is Sukhumvit Soi 49 all worth it. At this cute, pastel cafe designed by Party/Space/Design, the perfect rectangle-shaped Brussels-style waffles take center stage—though they don't come cheap. Their Japanese style souffle pancakes are equally impressive—we love the Tiramisu Avatar (B330), served with mascarpone custard, coffee caviar and a shot of espresso.
Sukhumvit Soi 49, 085-359-2656. Open daily 10am-9pm. BTS Phrom Phong.
