Antito’s bold color scheme and chic, cheerful pop-art references–think Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein–add flamboyant charm to Michelin-starred Chef Amerigo Sesti’s poolside Italian resto-bar. For starters, go for the kampachi and tomato carpaccio, or the towering parmigiana express–both of which look more like an art installation than antipasti. Equally delightful are the wagyu meatball sandwich filled with a spicy tomato sauce, homemade caserrecie pasta in a slow-cooked lamb ragu, and the glazed pork cheek risotto (or sticky “rice-otto”). Don’t skip the tiramisu, which is served in a crispy cat tongue pastry basket.

After nearly a decade of top-notch casual fare, Appia switched things up a few years back with changes to both the venue and the food and a move toward the finer side of the spectrum. Here, ingredients are king and allowed to shine, exemplified by something as seemingly simple as their chicken liver crostini, or the aptly-named “Simple Zucchini Salad” served with 24-month parmesan. All of the pasta is homemade, including the stand-out fettuccine in a “butcher shop” ragu. The oxtail and lamb stews are great for a cold, rainy day, and the signature lamb ribs served with rosemary gremalota are absolutely worth the 45-minute wait.
20/4, Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-261-2056. Open Mon-Fri, 11:30am-2pm, 5-10pm; Sat-Sun, 11:30am-10pm
La Bottega’s dishes boast minimal ingredients prepared with impeccable technique. The friendly and well-versed staff will tell you all you need to know, from the daily specials (which rotate based on the available ingredients) to what region of Italy the dishes come from. Every bite of the crab meat brioche amuse bouche is a creamy delight, and the roasted bone marrow with toasted sourdough is a similarly decadent indulgence. There are plenty of options for meat lovers, ranging from pork chops to rack of lamb. Make sure you try the homemade pastas—our favorite is the eponymous risotto “Luca.”

This little slice of Emilia-Romagna on the back Sois of Sathorn provides the premium ingredients that made the region famous, including parmigiano reggiano, balsamic vinegar from Modena, and prosciutto di Parma. Their “tricolore” version of the piadina, a soft cheese sandwich usually found on the streets of Rimini, is filled with rocket leaves, thin slices of prosciutto, and creamy stracchino cheese. Then there are mains like the cotoletta alla Petroniana—a large breaded veal chop topped with parma ham and parmigiano cheese. Pizzas here are certainly no afterthought, either—made with 72-hour-fermented, naturally leavened dough, which shines in the classic margherita.

Tony’s takes New York’s red-sauce and white-tableclothed vibes up a notch, thanks to a kitchen that cooks up straightforward New York-Italian classics with a farm-to-table concept that will leave you feeling nostalgic for the Big Apple. The whipped ricotta with toasted focaccia will spoil you for all future bread and butter sides. The grilled octopus potato “risotto,” prawn roe ravioli in scampi sauce, and their Bangkok Hot pizza with spicy salami, ‘nduja, and pickled chili are all chef’s recommended dishes for good reasons. Tiramisu is served in a whimsical moka coffee pot.

Rossini’s, the long-standing Sheraton Grande’s flagship restaurant, is led by Sicilan-born executive chef Gaetano Palumbo who grew up in a fishing town in Agrigento province that’s known for its traditional Sicilian cuisine. Expect fresh ingredients served with minimal preparation, such as their signature Hokkaido scallop dish, served alongside green apple, and sweet peas coulis with late summer flowers. Or there’s the classic that can’t go wrong: Burrata and tomato salad using Sicilian datterini tomatoes, wild arugula, and sprinkled with pistachios. For a main, go for the refreshing and light herb-crusted Norwegian salmon served with avocado in a yuzu carrot reduction sauce.

Starita has been cooking up Italian flavors ever since 1901, when founder Alfonso Starita decided to open a wine cellar (that later turned into a full-fledged restaurant) in Naples’ Materdei district. Their Bangkok branch is their first location outside of Italy, and is best known for their authentic Neapolitan pizzas. The signature Starita pizzas come in three options: classic baked marina with pecorino romano cheese; the montanara, which is first fried then baked with mozzarella; and the calzone-esque ripieno which is filled with ricotta, mozzarella, salami, and pepper, and topped with ham and mushrooms.

Opera’s flagstone floors, brick walls and random bric-a-brac give the place a grotto feel, which, combined with the authentic Italian flavors, make you feel like you’re dining in a rustic eatery off the beaten path in a quaint Italian village. Cheese lovers will enjoy the rigatoni gratin with creamy pink sauce and mozzarella. Diners can also expect pastas that are harder to find in local Italian joints, such as the mezze maniche cacio e pepe, or the trofie in pesto sauce. The honey-glazed Norwegian salmon in hollandaise sauce is a standout. Don’t leave without dessert, specifically the crunchy millefeuille, or the burnt lemon meringue cake.

The Four Seasons’ river-facing Italian restaurant is a warm ode to the picturesque restaurants that line Lake Como, and thanks to its primely position along the Chao Phraya, it’s the perfect setting for a meal with a view. With a drink in hand, snack on some Milanese-style sardines, a mixture of almonds and mushroom crisps, or a fresh selection of charcuteries and/or cheeses. The juicy roasted Lumina lamb entrecote served with a stuffed Tropea onion is a dish you’d be hard pressed to find in most restaurants in Bangkok. Another standout is the Milanese-style veal cutlet, whose richness is balanced out by a fresh Taggiasca olive salad.

Beluga’s sleek exterior (complete with floor-to-ceiling windows) is an appropriate match for the expansive modern Italian menu, which includes fusion dishes that incorporate Thai flavors. For unexpected delights, try the Phuket crab fettuccine in Thai yellow curry sauce, scallop risotto cooked in a Thai green curry base, or biryani-style rice served with foie gras and six-hour braised beef cheeks. Standouts in the more classic Italian style of thing include scallop fettuccine in lobster bisque, and spaghetti alle vongole with Manila clams. There are also two seasonal tasting menus: Thai-Italian (three, five, or seven courses), and straight-up Italian (five or seven courses).
