Just in time for winter, London-based Italian restaurant Signor Sassi (37/F, Anantara Bangkok Sathorn, Narathiwas Rd., Bangkok, 02-210-9011. BTS Chong Nonsi) is opening its third global branch in Bangkok. Founded in 1984 in Knightsbridge, and now also present in Kuwait and Lebanon, it’s an intriguing candidate for global domination, given its lack of Michelin star cred. Instead, it seems Signor Sassi is favored by the special occasion dining crowd (as opposed to foodies), who are wooed by its flamboyant, over-the-top service from impeccably turned-out wait staff. That should work nicely with the rooftop views, and it all sounds more reasonable than Sirocco or Vertigo, with wine by the glass starting from B240; avocado with lobster, scampi and prawns at B490; and spaghetti with lobster for B840.
