It's a purple haze.
Just opened in Sala Daeng, this cafe from the Nonthaburi-based coffee roasters serves up their own roasts as well as some other creative drinks. They make their sweet potato latte with imported dehydrated Japanese purple sweet potato, resulting in a fibrous character and sweet aroma. We like the bittersweet flavor and a fuller body when it’s topped with an espresso shot.

This cafe at the new 137 Pillars Suites hotel presents all-day breakfast and international comfort food. Visit its deli section where you’ll find freshly made pastries, sandwiches and cakes, of which this purple treat definitely stands out. Made with layers of sweet potato custard and sweet potato chiffon, you get a unique texture with just a little starchy feel.

This compact cafe serves up vegetarian and healthy bites. Owner Nuanwan Supertpanish (also a partner of Laliart coffee) sources chemical-free vegetables from Baan Ka in Ratchaburi and crafts everything in-house, including her various experimental breads, pastries and syrups. Of the variety of comforting soup, the super-tasty purple sweet potato option comes highly recommended. Pair it with her homemade bread for perfection.

This far-flung cafe on Ramintra does all of Bangkok’s trending desserts. Taking its inspiration from Japan, Apbo’s treats highlight the use of fruit and veggies, as in the kakigori shaved ice which comes with a topping mae with imported Japanese purple sweet potatoes. They’re now running a six-month pop-up cafe on the fourth floor of Siam Paragon, too.

Thonglor’s eclectic new kitchen gets creative with purple sweet potato. Their complimentary bread basket sees Josper-grilled purple sweet potato flatbread, served with a tasty lard-based dipping made with Thai herbs and spices, and topped with pork floss and sesame. It all combines to make a really fun bite. See our full Open Door on page 20.

Known for its melon, Ratchaburi’s organic farm, Coro Field, has recently expanded to a cafe in Bangkok. Here, they still highlight organic produce, including purple sweet potato from back home. Not only do they serve a super-silky mashed potato, but they also make French fries, tart and steamed buns with their purple yield.
