There’s a new reason to fly south: Anantara Layan Phuket Resort—the luxury property set along Phuket’s northwestern coast—has just opened a high-end grill, and it’s setting some lofty goals.
Age, which the Anantara Layan says “aspires to [be] the best grill restaurant in Phuket, if not Thailand,” focuses on premium meats and locally caught seafood served in an industrial, New York loft-style setting. The views over the Andaman Sea don’t hurt, either.
The menu runs the gamut from classic dishes to more experimental options. Think aged Angus beef tartare with quail eggs, mustard sauce and aged whiskey (B720); crocodile tail cooked sous-vide and served with a sherry reduction (B720); and Grouper Rossini, a plate of fried grouper liver with pommes Anna, truffle paste, crispy chicken skin, fresh tomatoes and basil (B1,100).
The classic dishes come in the form of chef’s cuts like grass-fed beef tenderloin (B1,600), Kobe beef rib-eye steak (B5,500) and whole Phuket lobster (B3,050), all cooked sous-vide or roasted in a Josper charcoal oven. These can be paired with a selection of over 350 labels of wine, including over 60 premium vintage or new world wines, and craft cocktails.
