Since the pandemic doom began, Bangkok’s food scene has seen a surge in the number of private chef’s tables—both new and old faces—as a way to cope with the lockdown. One start-up platform, Potioneer, is hopping on the trend with their space in Sukhumvit Soi 24 to cultivate new industry pros and connect diners to some of the best and hard-to-reach chefs in fine-dining.
The platform is the brainchild of the food enthusiasts Pitnitsan Santivarakum (Pol), Thavorn Kamolsin (Arm), Paparit Kankiatkul (Nack), Pitipat Kootrakul (Bam), and Sirin Kiettisuranant (Fah), all seeking to help aspiring chefs showcase their skills and make private dining sessions easy.
Potioneer has teamed up with some of the most prominent chefs in Bangkok. Among the notable names is Iron Chef Thailand winner Gigg Kamol (
Lerdtip Thonglor), who recently unveiled his own private Chinese chef’s table Honghao at his house in Ladprao.
His 9-course dining experience (B4,800) features Gigg’s personal spin on traditional Chinese, ranging from Dragon’s Pearl (Phuket’s par-cooked spiny lobster in mustard and sesame oil dressing) and Earth’s Jewel (deep-fried dim sum stuffed with plumb lobster with truffle cream) to The Swan and Dragon (charcoal-roasted goose with XO-sauce noodles) and the Reminiscent of Tsim Sha Tsui—a nod to chef Gigg’s affection with Hong Kong, featuring refillable Hong Kong-style Chinese rice in a clay pot with Chinese sausage and bacon.
