You don’t need to be staying at the new (but resolutely retro) Cabochon Hotel & Residence (Sukhumvit Soi 45, 02-259-2871/3) to check out its two restaurants. As the name suggests, Thai Lao Yeh Restaurant offers a range of Thai and Isaan dishes for lunch and dinner, with the timber floor and pan-Asian curios going some way to recreating the atmosphere of old Siam. If you fancy a more European ambience, The Joy Luck Club (which takes its name from the Amy Tan novel) is distinctly Parisian in style and open from breakfast until late (7am-1am) for finger food and a long list of aperitifs, wines and beers to help stir your appetite into action.
