Bid farewell to one of Bangkok's most iconic street food destinations.

The time has come to bid farewell to the street food hub of Sukhumvit Soi 38, as remaning vendors have been given their final orders to clear out by the end of the month.

As initially announced last May, the cluster of stalls right off BTS Thonglor will make way for a new property development. Following a wave of media coverage and nostalgic social media posts, the stalls on the left-hand side of the soi were forced to leave on Sep 1. Since then, things really haven't been the same. Pailin Jamsai, of Pa Laem beef noodles shop, told us traffic has well and truly slumped.

Now, the shop-houses on the right-hand side of the soi are set to depart. While their contracts don't expire till the end of February, most vendors will stop operating by Jan 20. Some stalls have already closed, while others have committed to staying until the last minute while they determine where to head next.

We do have news on where some popular stalls will relocate. Several stalls will move into the ground floor of Sutthi Mansion, on the corner of Soi 38, where the popular Pad Thai Fai Look already operates, including the pork satay vendor. Joke Moo congee shop has a proper place tucked deeper in the soi that will start operations later this month. Pa Laem beef noodles is leaving Bangkok for Petchaburi, close to Sarasas Vithet school on the road to Chao Samran Beach.

Stay tuned to BK for more updates.
