Italian mixologist Michele Montauti, previously of J. Boroski and House on Sathorn, has unveiled his own cocktail bar. Located out the front of Italian fine-dining mainstay Opus (see below), Mikys takes over a large open space flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows. A black wall bears the colorful painting of a fantastical creature by street artist Mauy (think tiger meets deer, or something altogether different), while a lengthy backlit bar is the stage for Montauti to whip up signature cocktails like Julie (Broker's gin, Mancino Bianco, earl grey tea, jasmine syrup, lime and egg white) and In Pan Road (Don Julio Reposado tequila, elderflower liqueur, pomegranate juice, rosemary syrup, lime and celery bitters), both B340. Accompanying the drinks are small dishes like beef fajitas (B490) and tuna sashimi (B390).

A joint effort from owner/manager Alex Morabito and chef Davide Calo, this Italian restaurant boasts a well-thought-out menu offering excellent pastas and main dishes, plus an extensive wine list of over 400 Italian labels housed in a walk-in cellar. The setting, a stylish house-turned-restaurant, boasts a masculine vibe rich with leather and red accents.

 

Sukhumvit Soi 39’s favorite bakery has recently moved to Silom. Tucked in a small alley down Pan Road, Le Blanc’s new shop-house location offers takeaway delicacies in a space just big enough for a display table, cashier booth and a few people. The Japanese owners bake delicious French-style pastries fresh daily on site, including baguette (B60), croissants (B80), walnut bread (B120) lots of colorful fruit danish pastries (B45-80). You can also expect creative items like the pina colada (pineapple and coconut custard danish, B55) and puff-pastry-based cinnamon and cappuccino rolls (B65). Delivery is also available.

Tucked in a small alley behind Wat Kek, Pan Road’s bright white cafe doubles as a glasses showroom. Printa Cafe serves the likes of all-day breakfast and Western comfort food with a twist while also lets diners try on as many of Glazziq glasses as they want. The kitchen offers classic dishes with some flavor twists like the “healthy Benedict” (B190), poached eggs on smashed avocado and toast, topped with Sriracha sauce, crab Louis salad (B220) with spicy Caesar dressing and linguine clams (B200). Espresso starts at B65 while smoothies are B145.

 

Manit Sriwanichpoom’s two-floor gallery sits in a restored pre-war shop-house. Open since 2006, it’s still Bangkok’s preeminent photography gallery, with a focus on Thai society's transformation and urbanization. Kathmandu also preserves and rediscovers the works of forgotten masters of Thai photography. Customers interested in acquiring one of Manit's works can also browse them from a folder, just like in photo-art shops of days long past. It also includes a specialty book store focused on Hinduism and Shamanism.
