Chu Chocolate Bar & Cafe

Although originally named after churros, the traditional Spanish fried dough dessert, this veteran cafe is now better known for the all day brunch menu it serves from its perch overlooking traffic-clogged Asoke. Savory bites like chorizo scrambled eggs on sourdough bread and bangers and mash come in hefty portions that actually fill you up, but you simply must make room for the show-stopping velvety, dark hot chocolate.

Gastro 1/6

The charming backyard adjoining RMA Institute boasts a summer-ready, Arabian-influenced menu devised by Bo.lan’s Bo Songvasiva. That means local, sustainably caught fish and Royal Projects produce. Stretch out in the sun and try dishes like smoked barracuda in a dressing of herb yogurt with baby cucumber, and the baba ganoush (an Arabic eggplant dip) with hazelnut dukkha and flatbread.
RMA Institute, 238 Soi Sai Namthip 2, Sukhumvit Soi 22, 080-603-6421. Open Tue-Sun 8:30am-4pm.

Invisible Coffee Room

A former architect put into practice all he’d learned from barista courses in Korea and certification from the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe at this crisp, clean cube of a cafe without any official signage (spot the tagline: “delicious is invisible”). From a coffee bar awash with natural light, they pour lattes and flat whites made using beans from Thailand,Guatemala and Brazil.
25/8 Sukhumvit Soi 16, 094-425-2451. Open Mon-Fri 7:30am-5pm; Sun 10am-6pm. BTS Asok.

Kuppa

Almost 20 years old, this brunch mainstay remains much the same as always, its dining room made for lounging around and its menu packed with salads, scrumptious stone-baked pizza and
comfort-food classics from duck confit to crispy pork knuckle. Also don’t miss the cheesecake (bring a friend to split it), or the coffee—roasted in-house long before that was de rigueur.
39 Sukhumvit Soi 16, 02-663-0450-4. Open daily 10am-11pm. BTS Asok.

Paris Mikki

After nearly a decade training at the hallowed patisserie grounds of Angelina and Laduree, pastry chef Carol Boosaba opened this little white and blue number in Asoke. Sticking largely to French tradition, she bakes in limited supplies using seasonal ingredients. The St. Honore (a pile of creamy choux), tarte au chocolat and good ol’ Parisian croissant regularly rank among the best in town.
1/F, Metha Wattana, 27 Sukhumvit Soi 19, 088-870-0020. Open Tue-Fri 10:30am-9pm; Sat-Sun 9am-9pm. BTS Asok.

Yardbird

A leafy little glasshouse that brings the outdoors indoors, this cafe pushes coffee boundaries. Here, your espresso macchiato has an edible gold layer of skin, your cappuccino might come fused with a creme brulee or your iced latte with cotton candy. What passes for a food menu is rather more straightforward (eclairs and croissants), but you can shake off the afternoon lethargy with an espresso martini.
Sukhumvit Soi 4, 081-949-4806. Open daily 9am-11pm. BTS Asok.
