Morimoto, the Bangkok outpost of famed “Iron Chef” Masaharu Morimoto of Nobu in New York, is closing its doors. 

In a status posted to Facebook, the restaurant's management announced its last day for business would be Aug 31 and thanked diners for their support over the past two years. 

Since opening in 2016, Morimoto has spruiked the type of fusion-y Japanese cuisine that chef Morimoto has become world-famous for (the celeb chef's got franchises across the US, as well as Japan, Dubai, Mumbai and New Delhi), serving dishes like toro tartare, hamachi tacos and sushi rolls in a soaring Scandinavian-influenced dining room inside Sathorn's MahaNakhon Cube. 

The restaurant even impressed BK Magazine enough to give out a rare four-star review, and also made our Top Tables guide earlier in 2018. 

Morimoto's closure follows on from the news in April that King Power bought MahaNakhon Tower—Thailand's tallest building—and the adjoining MahaNakhon Cube retail building from financially struggling developer Pace Development Corporation Plc. for a reported B10 billion.

Last month also saw the death of another popular MahaNakhon Cube tenant, Vogue Lounge. Is this King Power ringing the changes? Will other closures follow? Will that cheesy blue sign every change? The answer to these questions and more hopefully coming soon.
