Dramatic desserts meet tea pairing at Park Hyatt's sky-high Penthouse
This new afternoon tea is made for sweet-tooths.
Are you a sucker for sweets? Then check out Penthouse Bar + Grill’s new Afternoon Tea Journey. Featuring five delicate dessert courses, each paired with Mariage Freres tea, the set harks back to the restaurant’s grill roots with on-theme techniques and theatrics covering charcoal, smoke and fire, all served in the restaurant’s dramatic Art Deco dining room with 35th-floor views over Sukhumvit.
A black sesame crepe cake kicks things off, with a hit of earthy matcha sauce and sweet charcoal ice cream, paired with Fuji yama green tea. Next up, a sweet, fritter-like bite of banana with palm sugar presents itself as a lump of coal surrounded by ash and smoke. This is followed by caramelly wedding imperial black tea paired with the baked Alaska-referencing “Burnt Ice Cream,” which sees sponge cake, vanilla ice cream and raspberry sorbet encased in burnt meringue, all of which is doused with flaming liquor.
In a tropical twist, the next course features barbecued pineapple served with pina colada ice cream, crispy quinoa and passion fruit coulis. For the grand finale, smoked chocolate mousse is served inside a Thai cocoa bean with white chocolate ice cream, chewy brownie bites and tonka beans, followed by a glass of Irish cream.
Prefer something more traditional? Then check out the signature afternoon tea (B850) at downstairs’ Living Room; a Thai version is also available alongside a Thai chocolate-themed afternoon tea.
